There have been some great prevailing theories when it comes to what may happen in the yet to be titled Avengers 4. But, there are some pretty ‘out there’ theories as well. Some theories are down right crazy, like people are just grasping at straws or saying whatever outlandish ideas come to mine to get some clicks or likes on their page. Most of them, however, are more of a fan’s personal wish than a legitimate theory. This newest one may be one of those.
Joshua Yehl of IGN, who admitted to having no life other than these movies, created a theory that involves an obscure section of the multiverse. In a comic book story called the ‘Thanos Imperative”, The Guardians of the Galaxy reluctantly join forces with the Mad Titan, Thanos, to stop another dimension from invading the Earth 616 realm. This alternate dimension is a realm without death called the Cancerverse, where no one can die and it has become overrun with the undead. Yehl’s theory states that Thanos in Infinity War sent all of the souls from the snap to the Cancerverse.
Okay, let’s break it down as to why this simply doesn’t work. First off, the Russos and Kevin Fiege have stated that the deaths from the snap are real. But, if the ‘victims’ were sent to a realm where death doesn’t exist, than obviously their ‘death’s never actually happened. Second, if Thanos’ ultimate goal was to bring balance to the universe so that it may strive and survive, why would he send these trillions of beings into a realm that is already overpopulated?
And, if you listen to Thanos explain how the deaths would be random, and full of mercy in that no one would suffer, than that means he knows his ‘victims’ will die. Yet, Yehl’s theory states that Thanos would know that the ‘victims’ would survive by his design. That counteracts Thanos’ own words.
Also, the theory contradicts itself, stating that the Infinity Gauntlet makes Thanos a God, allowing him to do exactly what he wants. But, then in the very next sentence, Yehl states that the Gauntlet could have sent the victims to the Cancerverse, effectively doing Thanos’ bidding, just not in the way he expected. But, if he is essentially a God, than he would have full control over EVERY aspect of what happens. He would have to consciously send all of those people to the Cancerverse, not have it happen unexpectedly.
Also, to include a whole other realm consisting with evil doppelgangers of Marvel’s heroes (read the ‘Thanos Imperative’ for more info), would just be ridiculous. There are already so many characters in this film, more so than even Infinity War, so to add a whole other universe of characters is just foolish. And, to just add a whole other realm, without so much as a whisper of it throughout the 20 plus films, in the finale of Phase 3, makes zero sense.
The only way that would work is if they plan on using the Cancerverse as the big foil for Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4. This is also highly unlikely.
With stars like Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. having their contracts up, who would play their doppelgangers? And, considering all the evidence that points to the Quantum Realm playing a key role in the film, including stars like Michael Douglas stating as much, why would you include a whole other realm, with zero build up (unlike the Quantum Realm, which they’ve been building up over the years), to eclipse all that they have done so far?
In the end, this is more of one particular fan’s wish than it is a grounded theory. But, hey, we can all dream, right?
