Even though the still untitled Avengers 4 is set to be the finale of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 3, as well as the culmination of the last 10 years of films, Disney and Marvel Studios have zero thoughts of slowing down or stopping. Marvel has several more films planned for the next 10 plus years, and with Disney acquiring Fox Media and all its properties, the landscape just became that much more vast. However, with all these properties, it does make setting a solid release timeline a little difficult. Rather, it has to remain fluid, as the merger goes through, as well as productions taking longer than anticipated, etc.
Here’s a look at the latest pending schedule, first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
- February 14, 2020: Untitled Disney Live Action
- March 6, 2020: Untitled Pixar Animation
- March 27, 2020: Mulan
- May 1, 2020: Untitled Marvel
- May 29, 2020: Maleficent 2
- June 19, 2020: Untitled Pixar Animation
- July 24, 2020: Jungle Cruise
- October 9, 2020: Untitled Disney Live Action
- November 6, 2020: Untitled Marvel
- November 25, 2020: Untitled Disney Animation
- December 23, 2020: Untitled Disney Live Action
On a previous future release schedule, Disney had a yet to be titled Marvel movie set for a July, 2020 date. However, on their latest schedule, the Disney ride-turned-film, Jungle Cruise, starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, has been moved into that spot. The Marvel film is, as of now, off the books.
Speculation has run rampant as to what film this could have been, with the most prevailing theory that it was the original release date for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but between the controversy of James Gunn’s firing and the franchise’s future in limbo, production for said film has been reportedly moved to 2021, so it obviously couldn’t make the summer 2020 release date.
Regardless of the reasoning behind the move, fans shouldn’t panic. These lists are fluid, as we stated earlier, and shouldn’t be taken as set in stone. Things change and changes can be made. We could still see a Marvel summer release in 2020. Only time will tell.
