Following the success of IT, Stephen King adaptations have been picking up a lot of steam. The next in a healthy list of adaptations and remakes is Pet Sematary. This won’t be the first time the story has made it onto the screen, the first time around was in 1989 directed by Mary Lambert and it was pretty good. This time around Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer will be at the helm, and now we have our first glimpse at what to expect from the movie.
The images, shared by EW, certainly give a good insight into the updated version of the story. The book centres around a burial ground that has the power to resurrect the deceased, but not without consequence. It is certainly a dark story, as is typical of Stephen King, and the first movie definitely did do it justice and was a hit with fans so it will be interesting to see a fresher take on the story.
The bar is set high though, following the success of IT. By the looks of things though, this Pet Sematary adaptation should certainly be able to compete.
In Pet Sematary…
“Based on the seminal horror novel by Stephen King, Pet Sematary follows Dr. Louis Creed (Clarke), who, after relocating with his wife Rachel (Seimetz) and their two young children from Boston to rural Maine, discovers a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near the family’s new home. When tragedy strikes, Louis turns to his unusual neighbour, Jud Crandall (Lithgow), setting off a perilous chain reaction that unleashes an unfathomable evil with horrific consequences.”
Pet Sematary will be released on April 5, 2019.
