Jordan Peele Reportedly In Talks To Remake ‘Candyman’

    Candyman Movie

Horror movie remakes and reboots have been a big thing over the past few years, instantly titles like David Gordon Green’s upcoming Halloween movie comes to mind, and a whole host of Stephen King remakes are in the works right now. The next reboot being talked about is Bernard Rose’s 1992 horror, Candyman. The film was based on a short story from Clive Barker’s Books of Blood collection. Two sequels followed the movie, and now Jordan Peele is connected to produce a Candyman remake.

Although it currently isn’t the most popular and timeless horror franchise, a remake could really illuminate how scary the story actually is. Tony Todd’s Candyman had his hand severed and was murdered using bee’s by the father of his lover. To call upon him you simply say his name five times over while looking in a mirror, and he shall appear. The sequels didn’t do well, with the second one going straight to video.

There have been a lot of unnecessary remakes in recent years, of films that didn’t really need it because the original was good enough to be left alone. I think Candyman is a perfect example of something that could do with a fresh breath of life.

Bloody Disgusting shared the news that Jordan Peele is in talks to produce, and I can’t think of anyone better for the job. He won an Oscar this year for the screenplay of the massively impressive, game-changing horror, Get Out. He was also nominated for best director. It is currently unclear as to whether he would also direct the Candyman remake.

Right now Jordan Peele is working on a thriller called Us.

Do you think Candyman should be remade? Is Jordan Peele the right guy to bring this property back? Be sure to tell us all of your thoughts in the comments!
