So much news is bombarding the internet as production for Spider-Man: Far From Home hits a fever pace. Seeing as how the film is the first of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4, and will directly deal with the fallout from the still untitled Avengers 4 (said to take place a mere minutes after the conclusion of said film), it makes sense that some familiar faces would pop up to join Spidey in his latest adventure. With the set leaks showing Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, and Jon Favreau shooting some scenes released just hours ago, a new rumor has sprung up that adds another MCU alum to the cast.
According to SuperBroMovies and their colleague Daniel RPK, Gwyneth Paltrow will be reprising her role as Pepper Potts in the Wall Crawler’s sequel. This with make Paltrow’s eighth MCU appearance, including the upcoming Avengers 4. But her presence, along with the returning Happy Hogan, but with no Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), only fuels the previous rumors of Tony meeting his demise by the end of the finale of MCU’s Phase 3.
Paltrow’s participation in the film makes sense, if Stark’s death is true. Peter Parker has obviously grown very close to Tony Stark, finding a mentor/father figure in Tony that has been missing since the death of Peter’s Uncle Ben.
So, his death will be a huge blow to both Peter and Pepper, as well as Happy, which could bring the three closer together as a way to mourn/cope. We saw that Happy grew fond of Peter by the end of his first solo film, and although not really shown, I’m sure the warm heart of Potts has also taken a shine to the Web Head. Top that off with the rumors of Pepper being pregnant with Tony’s child, and we could see an offbeat family unit forming amongst the three, and Aunt May as well.
Regardless of the dynamic that forms between these characters, or what capacity Paltrow holds in this flick, the star power in this film will only help it towards being an even bigger hit than the first.
