X-Men: Dark Phoenix is the next film in the Fox Studios X-Verse, and may very well be one of the last (along with New Mutants and Deadpool 3: X-Force) Marvel Studios takes control back of their characters, thanks to Disney buying Fox Media for over 73 billion dollars. Speculation has run rampant on the films, on whether or not they’ll be any good (most reports of early footage say “no”) or if they’ll even be released at all (the release delays for both Dark Phoenix and New Mutants are not helping…). Thanks to the Twitter account, Universo X-Men, we’re getting a look at Nightcrawler’s costume, and it is probably the most comic accurate suit we’ve ever gotten in an X-Men film, which is actually pretty exciting!

Kodi Smit-McPhee, minus the blue makeup, looks spectacular in the more traditional look for Nightcrawler. It is definitely a step up from his drab look from X-Men: Apocalypse. It also raises the question, are we going to get some more backstory in Nightcrawler’s origins? Maybe they’ll explore his faith some more, or even his mutant lineage (in the comics, his parents are Mystique and Azazel, but that might be harder to pull off with Mystique only being a few years older than Nightcrawler in the films).
Either way, this little tidbit brings back some of the excitement for this film that has waned as of late.
