DC entertainment may not be crossing their Cinematic and TV universe over like Marvel but that isn’t stopping them from using one to advertise the other. According to Heroic Hollywood, DC plans to release two teaser trailers about one minute long during the commercial breaks for Supergirl on CBS and Gotham on Fox. The Supergirl teaser will focus on Superman’s role in the upcoming film, a welcome sign to fans of the “The Man of Tomorrow” (title idea for next Superman film DC) amid the growing rumors that Superman is being effectively phased out of what was meant to be his sequel – in favor of Ben Affleck’s Batman. Speaking of “The World’s Greatest Detective” – Batman’s teaser will air during Gotham and will also focus on his role in the film.
All of this is in the rumor stage at this point but it’s not hard to imagine this turning out to be true. DC’s competition Marvel have been airing teasers for their films alongside their TV shows since the first entered the small screen. It’s a two birds with one stone marketing strategy – you advertise the film to the TV audience and you encourage the film fans to check out the TV shows. While I don’t think these teasers will do much for the film in terms of getting more people in theatres, I do think this could be a good thing for the TV shows. Supergirl has come under fire for its resemblance to most “small girl in the big city stories” and Gotham has received mixed reactions from most fans, this incentive could help boost initial ratings, bringing in new fans or in the case of Gotham fans that dropped off.
Also rumored was that the next proper theatrical trailer is due to be release at some point in November. If these rumors are true then we have plenty of Batman and Superman to keep us titillated this side of Christmas.
