Warner Bros have recently given the green light to their upcoming DC Joker origin movie. Joaquin Phoenix will play the infamous comic book villain under the direction of Todd Phillips. Yesterday, a casting description for a strong supporting role was released, and it may just be a character that fans are familiar with.
Geeks WorldWide have shared the character description. It reads:
MR. WARNER Supporting Male (60-70) [MR. WARNER] male, Caucasian, 60s, a deeply-tanned, hair dyed so black it was almost blue, highly successful, New York City businessman, rumored to be running for Mayor. He’s a public figure in the city and a symbol of wealth [STRONG SUPPORTING]
Although we can’t say for definite who this character is, fans have speculated that it may be the businessman turned corrupt politician and crime boss, Rupert Thorne. Thorne is a longstanding villain featured in the comics. The character is in the right age range, and although he is normally shown with white hair it could be dyed per the description.

The character nearly appeared in Tim Burton’s Batman, and would have been the man that orders the hit out on Thomas and Martha Wayne. Thomas Wayne is also rumoured to be featured in the Joker movie.
Actress Zazie Beetz is in talks to play the role of a single mother, Robert De Niro is rumoured to play a talk show host and Frances Conroy is reportedly going to play the Joker’s mum. Scott Silver is writing the script and Martin Scorcese is executive producer.
The story is set in Gotham City during the 1980’s. It was reported back in March that it would follow the Joker as a stand-up comedian, Arthur Fleck, who turns to a life of crime after his comedy career fails.
The Joker origin movie starts shooting in September and will be released on October 4, 2019.
