San Diego Comic-Con is the gift that keeps on giving. This time, it was Ryan Reynolds during the Deadpool 2: Super Duper Cut panel. Reynolds has once again pushed his campaign to get Hugh Jackman to reprise is legendary role of the Canadian Mutant who is the best at what he does (and what he does ain’t pretty, bub), aka Wolverine. The panel spoke on an extended version of the post credits scene that was shown where Deadpool uses Cable’s time travel device to “correct some wrongs”, including that debacle of a film, X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
In the scene we all saw in the theaters, Deadpool brutally kills the crappy version of his character from said film. At the end of the scene, Deadpool tells ‘Wolverine’ that he loves him. But, in the extended version, Deadpool leans back into frame and says,
“One day your old pal Wade’s gonna ask you to get back in the saddle again. When he does, say yes.”
Reynolds goes on to say, ‘You never know’. Now, while some feel that with the Disney purchase of Fox right around the corner, this isn’t likely to happen, but the fact that the X-Men properties will be back with Marvel, Jackman is more likely than ever to reprise the role of Logan, even if for a short part in the next Deadpool flick. It would be a huge moneymaker, just on concept alone.
Although Jackman said that he has hung up his claws for good after 17 years of playing the feral Canuck, Reynolds is continuing his rigorous (and privacy invading) campaign to get him back for at least one more go.
Hopefully, his campaign is successful, and we get what is sure to be an incredible dynamic between the two.
