We got some shocking news yesterday as it was revealed that Disney decided to fire director James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3. Gunn wrote and directed the first two films in the franchise, but Disney made the decision to drop him from the project after a load of offensive tweets were unearthed from Gunn, including those on subjects such as rape and pedophilia.
Guardians of the Galaxy is my favorite Marvel movie and I considered myself a huge James Gunn supporter. However, after seeing these disturbing tweets I think Marvel did the right thing.
Personal Suggestion: Bring in Taika Waititi. pic.twitter.com/d3Yrp9apxQ

So James Gunn had a few bad tweets back in the day but maybe firing him is an overreact-OH MY GOD pic.twitter.com/if1koS0XCo

There has been a pretty big response about the Tweets and people have certainly been divided in their reactions. Although the director has fallen victim to a lot of criticism over this situation, Marvel Studios actor Dave Bautista had something different to say. Bautista has worked under Gunn’s direction playing Drax in the two Guardians of the Galaxy films, and had this to say on Twitter, in the director’s defense:
I will have more to say but for right now all I will say is this..@JamesGunn is one of the most loving, caring, good natured people I have ever met. He’s gentle and kind and cares deeply for people and animals. He’s made mistakes. We all have. Im NOT ok with what’s happening to him

James Gunn revealed back in April 2017 that he would direct the movie that would complete the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, in a Facebook post that was full of pride and dedication. He said:
“So, yes, I’m returning to write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
In the end, my love for Rocket, Groot, Gamora, Star-Lord, Yondu, Mantis, Drax, and Nebula – and some of the other forthcoming heroes – goes deeper than you guys can possibly imagine, and I feel they have more adventures to go on and things to learn about themselves and the wonderful and sometimes terrifying universe we all inhabit. And, like in both Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, we will work on creating the story that goes beyond what you expect.”
Of course, this isn’t the first time there has been concern over something James Gunn has Tweeted. Back in May this year the director implied that The Joker actor, Jared Leto, is a pedophile. You can see the tweet below:
