The original Fright Night is quickly coming back in style. While the movie was remade in 2011, and again in 2015, it’s the original written and directed by Tom Holland that continues to be loved and referenced by fans. Holland understands this, and is actually writing a new sequel in the form of a novel because of it.
Interestingly enough, however, we’re also getting a new comic series. There was once a short-lived series of comics launched in 1988 which were unfortunately canceled prematurely. Fans have been aching for more ever since, and Holland seems to have them covered. As he’s previously announced –
“If you dug the ‘Fright Night’ comic book series back in the day, I have good news. I’m bringing it back! New stories and illustrations are under way. Stay tuned for more tales from Peter Vincent!”
But now we know this isn’t quite the truth. While Holland is indeed bringing us new comics, they’re not going to be in anyway a follow up to the original stories. He was recently asked on Twitter by the website, Brain Mutant, and had a very interesting response:
Completely new stories

It’s unfortunate to hear as a fan of the original comics, and I’m sure other fans can relate. The odds of a new comic series once seemed impossible. Now that we’re getting one, it’s just too upsetting to hear it won’t be fixing and following up on all the awesome cliffhangers from the old series.
But I can only imagine that the new series will take plenty from it – including reviving Evil Ed and the legendary Jerry Dandrige. So either way, we should still be happy we’re getting new comics at all.
