It’s a good time to be a Halloween movie fan, or more specifically, a fan of the original Halloween. As we all know, Danny McBride and David Gordon Green’s attempt to continue the original film’s story will retcon all other sequels and entries in the series. But interestingly enough, and not unlike Disney with Star Wars, it seems they’ll be pulling elements from all Halloween movies.
As Danny McBride explained in an all-new interview with Flickering Myth,
“This picks up after the first one. The Halloween franchise has kind of become a little bit of like choose your own adventure, you know like there’s some many different versions, and the timeline is so mixed up, we just thought it would be easier to go back to the source and continue from from there. It was nicer than knowing you’re working onHalloween 11, it just seemed cooler, ‘we’re making Halloween 2‘. We do [reference the other movies]. For fans, we pay homage and respect to every Halloween that has been out there.”
It’s likely that the film will use names, locations, and designs from the sequels – not so much any of their story elements. As a huge fan of Halloween III: Season of the Witch, I especially hope they manage to include some Silver Shamrock masks. It’d be such a missed opportunity if they didn’t, and it would be the perfect film for such a reference considering Halloween III was the last film Universal released before this one. Plus, Adam Wingard’s The Guest managed to show some love for the iconic Silver Shamrock masks, so why can’t this one?
Whatever the case is, the movie still sounds like it’ll be a fantastic continuation for one of the most memorable slasher films in existence.
In the new film…
Laurie Strode comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.
Halloween returns on October 19, 2018.
