Sony has quite a few interesting Spider-Man related projects coming up. They’re said to be developing a Spider-Man Universe, beginning with this year’s Venom movie and apparently, it’s not just going to be a live-action only Spider-Man Universe. It’ll connect to animated movies as well – if new rumor is to be believed, that is.
FandomWire is reporting that Tom Hardy will make a (voice) appearance as Venom in the upcoming animated movie, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse – meaning both films will connect. With news that Tom Holland could appear in the Venom movie, this definitely is another surprise.
Obviously, this is just a rumor, so take it with a grain of salt. If it ends up being true, however, it makes for one confusing plan by Sony. I’m personally interested in whether or not Kevin Feige is actually behind all of this, especially after he seemed annoyed by and ultimately denied Sony producer Amy Pascal’s comments about Venom existing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Feige also quickly said Holland wouldn’t be in the film:
“No,” he started when asked about Tom Holland’s Spider-Man making an appearance. “No, I think they’re focusing on making a great Venom movie, and I don’t know much about it, but I know they’re off to a good start with Tom Hardy.”
We still don’t know for certain whether or not these things will actually happen, so we’ll just have to wait and see. I can’t really see Feige being behind some of these moves, so here’s hoping that Sony doesn’t f*ck up Spider-Man being in future MCU movies. If you need any evidence of this, simply look to Spider-Man 3, in which they completely destroyed one of the most profitable franchises ever – as well as Venom.
For now, most fans are just anxious to see a trailer for Venom, and apparently it’s coming soon.
Venom hits theaters on October 5th, while Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse will be here on December 14th.
