Earlier this week, we were given the first look at Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode in the upcoming Halloween movie, courtesy of some set photos. Now, it appears as though we’ve been given our first look at Michael Myers – courtesy of more set photos. Be warned, it’s a bit blurry, but still pretty cool to see:
We already know that this film will be ignoring the Halloween sequels, and that it’ll focus on tension rather than gore. According to producer Danny McBride:
“The original is all about tension. Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) doesn’t even know that Michael Myers exists until the last minutes of the movie. So much of it you’re in anticipation of what’s going to happen and the dread that Carpenter spins so effortlessly in that film, I think we were really trying to get it back to that. We’re trying to mine that dread. Mine that tension and not just go for gore and ultra-violence that you see some horror movies lean on. To us, it was all about bringing back the creep factor and trying to find the horror in your own backyard, in our own homes.”
McBride also revealed that Michael Myers won’t be immortal in this film – another interesting aspect:
“Look at where the Halloween franchise has gone. There’s a lot of room for improvement. David and I are coming from it as, we are horror fans, and we are humongous fans of John Carpenter and of what he did with the original Halloween, so I think from watching this and being disappointed by other versions of this series, I think we’re just trying to strip it down and just take it back to what was so good about the original.”
He added:
“It was just very simple and just achieved that level of horror that wasn’t corny and it wasn’t turning Michael Myers into some supernatural being that couldn’t be killed. That stuff to me isn’t scary. I want to be scared by something that I really think could happen.”
The new Halloween movie is scheduled to be released on October 19th, 2018.
