Though we hear all the time that the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies and TV shows are connected, we’re yet to actually see TV referenced in a movie.
Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb recently spoke with Inverse and said:
“I think it’s much more that we look at it from the point of view of “where are we?” and having to establish that along the way. In many ways, being less specific helps the audience understand that this could be on any street corner. Where we’re sitting right now, I can see the Empire State Building, but if we were sitting 30 blocks that way, I wouldn’t be able to see the Empire State Building. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. It just means that we can’t see it from where we are.”
Though Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige hasn’t ruled out the possibility of it happening, he recently said there are no current plans for it to happen any time soon:
“Maybe someday. No plans right now. Maybe someday, but we have a lot of characters in the MCU, and one of the things that is so special about those characters on the Netflix shows is their dynamic together. They are all combining to become The Defenders later this year and are doing their own thing.”
While The Inhumans wasn’t very good, Marvel’s Netflix shows (aside from maybe Iron Fist) have been pretty good. Here’s hoping we can at least get a reference someday – or maybe even a cameo. I do think it would obviously be hard to incorporate big stories together, but that’s no excuse to not reference the TV part of the Universe’s existence.
