X-Men and Fantastic Four remain major disappointments for Marvel fans. They’ve had horrible movies, so the MCU can’t use them to complete their universe. 20th Century Fox has had those rights for what seems like forever.
Marvel’s First Family has been held hostage, but fans have been relentless in asking for them to return them to Marvel. Surprisingly, we might see the same Wolverine we’re used to come back if the switch happened. Hugh Jackman said he would consider coming back there was a move. However, both parties confirm nothing of the sort will happen soon.
Stan Lee remains hopeful, though. At Wizard World in Nashville (via ComicBook), he had this to say about X-Men and Fantastic Four:
“Sooner or later, they’re going to get the rights back to all our characters. They’re working on it, and they’re still making X-Men movies and stuff. Don’t worry about it. You’ll get more Marvel superheroes than you’ll have time to look at in the next few years.”
Marvel has seen a change of hands with one of their more prominent characters lately. Spider-Man made the move from Sony to the MCU, which is why we suddenly saw a much different film recently. This may mean something big could happen for X-Men and Fantastic Four in the same manner.
Stan Lee had a good point about the amount of material they can produce, too. They will have no trouble producing new or little-known characters to the masses. Already, we have Black Panther and Captain Marvel. While they out wait Fox to return the characters everyone wants them to, we’ll be entertained by the abundance of characters they provide us.
