It’s no surprise that a new Terminator trilogy is in the works. We know that although James Cameron doesn’t get the rights until 2019, he’s already made a deal with the current rights holders to produce a new trilogy. We also know that the plans are for Deadpool director Tim Miller to helm the reigns. What we didn’t know was what capacity Arnold Schwarzenegger would be starring in, if at all.
Now in a new interview (via The Playlist), Schwarzenegger gives us a bit more of an idea – as well as how soon we can expect the new film to start shooting.
“I am shooting Terminator 6, James Cameron and David Ellison are back on board and then comes a Conan.”
It’s certainly a surprise that they’re beginning to shoot the film so quickly. Cameron has been working on getting the first Avatar sequel going for almost a decade now, so for him to plan an entirely new Terminator trilogy at this rate is unprecedented.
There’s also the fact Schwarzenegger referred to the film as “Terminator 6”, which could mean this film takes all five previous films as canon. And if that’s so, how does Cameron intend to repair the inconsistencies and retcons to form a more appropriate narrative for the franchise?
It’ll be interesting to see what comes of this new Terminator film, and whether or not it will fall apart like those planned reboots before it.
He’s also planning ‘Triplets’ a sequel to ‘Twins’ – which co-starred Danny Devito.
Per Schwarzenegger’s interview with Kleine Zeitung:
“In the fall I start the shooting on the comedy ‘Triplets’ with Eddie Murphy and Danny DeVito,” he stated.
Guess we will have to wait and see.
