Marvel’s Logan was released earlier this year, and so far, in my opinion, out of all of the comic book movies released this year – it was my favorite. That’s not to say that Wonder Woman and Spider-Man: Homecoming weren’t great, because they were, it’s just that wanting to see an R-Rated version of Wolverine was much higher on my list of priorities, and the fact that it delivered (in the opening scene nonetheless) made it even better.
If you haven’t seen Logan yet (why the hell are you even here?!), there are obvious spoilers that follow.
For those of you who are still here, you already know what happens at the end of Logan. The character dies. It was expected as Hugh Jackman revealed that it would be his final film.
In a recent interview with Digital Spy, however, he had this to say about the character returning:
“[Wolverine’ll] come back, just not with me. Well, except on Saturday nights at my house. I dress up! When my kids are not doing their homework, I dress up and the claws come out [laughs]. I just have to do that [raise an eyebrow] with the claws and it works! Definitely someone else will play the role [of Wolverine], it’s a great role. You know, it’s like a Bond or it’s like a Batman, those kinds of roles. Other people will play him for sure.“
So you’re saying there’s a chance?! Well, probably not. He played the character for 17 years, and the fitness and diet regimen finally wore him down. He did, however, offer his advice on a potential replacement in an interview:
“That’s a great question. I haven’t given it a lot of thought. I’ve been asked the question a lot and I’m always like “I don’t want to make it too easy on the studio to replace me.” I’ve still got one more to do. I’m sure they’re already talking about it, that some actor out there they’ve already said “shhhh… keep it quiet but we want you next. He’s younger than me for sure, I think Tom Hardy would be great.”
Whoever they cast, I think it’s safe to say that they’ll wait a while before they do it. Though, with Fox, you never know.
