It was a terrible revelation when Zack Snyder announced his departure from the upcoming Justice League adaptation. His decision to leave was fueled by a horrific tragedy that no person should have to endure. Warner Bros. clearly understood and allowed Snyder to leave before supposedly replacing him with Joss Whedon to complete the project. But now it seems Whedon was a part of the project well before Snyder’s tragedy occurred.
Whedon had previously joined Warner Bros. to simply write and direct their upcoming Batgirl adaptation. Now producer Charles Roven has confirmed Whedon had been helping Snyder for quite some time with post production.
While speaking with Variety at the LA premiere of Wonder Woman, Charles Roven explained Whedon’s preexisting involvement.
“We’re excited about the film, of course, but we were saddened by the events that caused Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder to have to leave and turn the reins over to Joss Whedon. He was already working with us on some of the scenes for that additional photography that we’re going to be doing shortly. It was fortunate that Zack convinced him, and he agreed to step in and finish the movie – to help Zack finish his vision. We’re excited about that.”
It’s been interesting seeing both Snyder and Whedon’s involvement with the film, and hopefully for the best. The DC Cinematic Universe may not have been the most well-received over the years, but Justice League will hopefully be the start of a new era for the franchise.
Justice League will remain on schedule despite Snyder’s departure and will hit theaters November 17, 2017.
