Major SPOILERS for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 follow.
After filming began earlier this year, the production of Avengers Infinity War has been under attack from eagle-eyed fans and press alike. They’ve all been trying to catch a glimpse of who will be turning up, what the story might be. Any nugget of information that might give them the edge in bringing this Marvel film news to the people.
I myself have reported on a statue that appeared in Age of Ultron making a reappearance on set in Scotland. However, now it appears the producers have decided to play dirty with the spectators by using tricks to leak false information from site.
They have used one Marvel actors involvement to fuel speculation that he is reappearing in the MCU. Guardians of the Galaxy star Michael Rooker, who played Yondu, was seen on set and this led fans to believe Yondu may be joining the Avengers.
Guardians of the Galaxy Director James Gunn answered a fan on Twitter when he was asked if this marked the return of Yondu to the MCU. Michael Rooker’s Yondu dies at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. His return to set will have sparked rumours that Yondu may be brought back.
James Gunn replied that this was false and went on to say the following on Twitter:
“No we did it because word was getting out he wasn’t in the movie,” he went on “People were guessing what that meant.”
So Marvel decided to bring Rooker to site, to hide the fact Yondu dies in Volume 2.
If Marvel are using tricks like this to stop spoilers leaving set, what else have they hidden. Recently, a set image was released of Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olson kissing, which fueled speculation that Vision and Scarlet Witch would be getting together. However, Bettany wasn’t in costume, and if it was a ‘rehearsal’ they did it next to a very public window.
I’m not saying all images released are red herrings, but I reckon there are a lot, maybe even an infinite amount.
Avengers Infinity War will reach cinemas May 4th 2018, but first we will see how Thor deals with Ragnarok on October 27th in the UK & November 3rd in the US.
