Today marks the release for Blade Runner 2049’s second trailer, and it sure does look like it’ll fit in with the Blade Runner we’ve come to love over the decades.
Although it’s not directed by Ridley Scott, the overall visual style fits uncannily with his 1982 film. In fact, so does the score, which sounds just as breathtaking as the original movie’s soundtrack.
The film comes from director Denis Villeneuve, who directed the recent success Arrival. And if that doesn’t give you enough hope for this project, you should be glad to know Ridley Scott is still staying attached as an executive producer. Harrison Ford, who played Deckard in the original, will also be returning alongside newcomer Ryan Gosling.
Fortunately, the trailer doesn’t seem to spoil anything. It merely teases you with its new plot and set of characters, which means I can’t wait to see it in theaters.
The film follows “a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), who discovers a dark secret that might bring an end to humanity. K’s discovery leads him to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former blade runner who disappeared thirty years ago.”
The original Blade Runner was released in 1982, and was based on author Philip K. Dick’s story Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? It starts when “Deckard (Harrison Ford) is forced by the police Boss (M. Emmet Walsh) to continue his old job as Replicant Hunter. His assignment: eliminate four escaped Replicants from the colonies who have returned to Earth. Before starting the job, Deckard goes to the Tyrell Corporation and he meets Rachel (Sean Young), a Replicant girl he falls in love with.”
Blade Runner 2049 hits theaters October 6, 2017.
