There’s no denying that Mad Max: Fury Road is one of the most celebrated actions movies of the past decade. Critics and general audience members went nuts for that movie back in 2015 and it went on to earn ten Oscars nominations and gross almost four hundred million worldwide.
The strange thing about Fury Road’s success is that there has been very little discussion of a sequel. Sure, we’ll hear a new bit of news here and there about Mad Max: The Wasteland, but Warner Bros doesn’t seem to be in much of a hurry to bring Max and Furiosa back to the big screen.
Luckily for us, the good people at The Independent interviewed George Miller recently and he offered a status update on The Wasteland saying:
“We dug down deep into the subtext, the backstory of all the characters, and indeed the world…and without really thinking about it, we wrote two other screenplays just as part of the bible of the stories. Somewhere, if the planets align, there will be two other films.”
As for now, Miller said that he’s working on a smaller scale film to recharge his batteries after making such a big blockbuster, so we probably won’t be able to see the next chapter for quite some time. Hopefully, Miller pumps out these films with greater sense of urgency than James Cameron has with his Avatar sequels (seriously, Jimmy. It’s been eight years).
