Taking responsibility of not only bringing an unconventional Marvel hero to the mainstream film-goers, but MCU’s first solo female-lead is a big task to pull right for the presentation of Captain Marvel. That being said, Marvel has just handpicked the person, or rather, persons with the right visionary for the job.
Marvel Studios has just confirmed the directing duo of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck to be in the chairs of their Captain Marvel film, starring Brie Larson. The duo are better known for directing Mississippi Grind, It’s Kind of a Funny Story and Sugar.
Variety has reported the following:
…the studio had met with several contenders and sources say the studio not only wanted to make sure that the search was thorough but that the script was in the right shape before tapping who would direct it….. Execs met with the two numerous times and the pair impressed the studio time and time again with their vision for the heroine. Boden and Fleck have experience in both the TV and film world, which Marvel considers a strength.
It should be noted that Inside Out’s Meg LeFauve and Guardians of the Galaxy’s Nicole Perlman are penning the script, which makes it a huge portion steering this ship of a female lead film to actually be women.
Kevin Feige and the rest of Marvel Studios seem to have a knack for taking more of the out-of-the-box talents, and with the likes of James Gunn and the Russo Brothers with Guardians of the Galaxy and the recent Captain America films respectively, this isn’t any different.
Captain Marvel is speculated to be released in 2019.
