Due to debut at an unannounced point later this year, the Punisher solo TV series has been kept shrouded in a level of secrecy that Marvel fans have come to expect from the company’s collaborations with Netflix. But this is the 21st Century, and the fact that everybody in New York City carries a smartphone and a love of money has forced the company to drip-feed details about the project online as their strict set security protocols have been repeatedly breached by the eagle-eyed populace of The Big Apple.
Principal photography on the show has been taking place in and around NYC since October, and it was announced a fortnight ago that filming had finally wrapped. During that time, a glut of photos of Jon Bernthal had appeared online, engaged in a number of violent altercations and culminating in him carjacking a police cruiser.
Now, whilst the length of Bernthal’s hair and beard may have varied somewhat throughout the filming, his attire has remained a rather boring constant, with this version of Frank Castle seemingly permanently dressed in a black hooded top and matching combat trousers. It was bad enough that Punisher fans had to wait until the closing scenes of Daredevil Season 2 to witness the birth of the character’s iconic Skull logo, and it’s remained irritatingly absent from the last seven months of filming. Until today….
Getty Images, who have provided the bulk of the set photo exclusives so far, have gone and dropped a number of pictures of Bernthal decked out in his fighting gear, showing off his version of the Skull logo in all it’s glory. And as already previously established, much like the Ray Stevenson version, this one will be adorning a tactical vest, and not a tee shirt.
Having viewed the images, it’s hard to see who’s soaked up the most punishment. Both the vest and Castle himself show the scars of a prolonged fight scene, which is sure to have Marvel fans excited at the prospect that the Netflix project is back on track after the recent that ‘Iron Fist’ mis-step.
