The Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy will always have a place in my heart (and the hearts of many other fans). Not because they were good (the first two were, let’s not really talk about the 3rd) but because of their nostalgic value. If you were like me, you were in Elementary school when the first film came out, the moment you leave the film, you wanted to shoot web and climb up the walls like the title character.
After the failure of Spider-Man 3 (sorry, I had to mention it) Sony decided to completely reboot the franchise and cast Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-Man. Garfield only lasted two films as the character, as Sony made a deal with Marvel Studios to let them use the the web-slinger – after the lackluster Box Office of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’.
Tom Holland was cast, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe took a much different direction with the character.
While we’ve only seen Holland as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, the actor has a big fan in Anthony Mackie (Falcon), who while speaking at Wizard World Cleveland, had some very positive things to say:
“I think he’s going to be a kick-ass Spider-Man. I think he’s going to be the best Spider-Man yet.”
I guess we’ll have to wait and see when Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters this Summer – but it’s hard to argue with Marvel’s track record on getting their characters right thus far.
