Captain America: Civil War is setting up to be a big hero vs. hero epic, with Captain America and Iron Man going toe to toe, along with almost every other hero in the MCU stepping up on either side. However, not everyone is picking a side, according to Kevin Feige:
In an interview with SuperHeroHype.com, the Marvel Studio Head let slip that T’Challa, aka Black Panther, will be neutral in the conflict.
“In the case of “Civil War,” we needed a third party, we needed a character who wasn’t on either Captain America or Iron Man’s side, which is why we went, “You know what? We’re doing a Black Panther movie, but it would actually be smart to have him fill this role we need in Civil War and introduce him here first.”
As the king of Wakanda, Black Panther will need to have good political and negotiation skills, and getting in the middle of Tony Stark and Steve Rogers could be an interesting way to show that this hero is not just a crime fighter, but also a political force.
Civil War will introduce Chadwick Boseman as the Black Panther, along with the new Spider-Man (Tom Holland). Shooting has begun, and the film is due out in May 2016.
