As we get closer and closer to the release of Ant-Man, marvel are teasing us with new reveals little by little.
BIG SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
So, in the most recent Ant-Man promo spot we catch a short clip of Anthony Mackie as the Falcon AKA Sam Wilson. Not much more to say as the clip lasts only a second and he’s just standing in this cool new Red and Black suit. The big question is how Falcon will fit in to the plot – will he team up with Ant-Man or does he just show up at the end to recruit Scott Lang for the Avengers? Will his cameo help set up for Marvel’s Civil War? Another possibility is that he may have history with ex-con Scott Lang.
In part of the Falcons back story it revealed (quite insultingly) that Sam was a former criminal, to be specific. I don’t believe this will be the case, as the change to Falcon’s background in the comics caused a massive backlash by fans calling it stereotypical and an insult to make one of the first African American superheroes an ex-con.
What do you think of Falcon in Antman? I’m excited, Mackie’s performance was one of my favorite things in Winter Soldier and my biggest complaint with Age of Ultron was that he was absent from the final battle while War Machine was in the thick of it.
I know that the reason is probably because they didn’t know how popular he would become and I’m guessing the final battle was almost finished in post-production after Winter Soldier came out. I still think they should have had a line about why he wasn’t there.
The Falcon’s presence in Ant-Man guarantees he’ll be bringing his classic charm to a film that many are afraid might be Marvel’s first big gamble that doesn’t pay off.
