Danny Rand is on his way to our screens, via Netflix, as Iron Fist, the mystical martial artist who can channel his Chi into his fist. However – it appears that this character is causing problems for Marvel, who are unsure how to portray the Hero for Hire.
According to a report from birthmoviesdeath.com, Marvel has been having lots of meetings and discussions, and hearing different pitches on how to bring Iron Fist to the small screen. It sounds like the mystical element of the character is causing some headaches- as they’re not sure how to approach it.
In the comics, he can channel his Chi into his fist, allowing him to hit with superhero level strength. He trained under the mystical masters of K’un L’un, who, along with teaching him this power, also taught him to the highest level of Kung-Fu. He worked with Luke Cage as part of the Heroes for Hire.
Of course, Marvel is looking to bring mystical and cosmic powers into the MCU with Doctor Strange in 2016 but the two characters are quite different so it might not be as simple as pointing out a connection between their powers.
As usual, Marvel is playing their cards close to their chest. With this news, however, it’s becoming more unlikely that we’ll see Iron Fist in Netflix’s Luke Cage when it debuts next year. But Iron Man wasn’t an easy character to bring to the big screen and they pulled that off. Hell, they even managed to make The Incredible Hulk work on the big screen, albeit as part of an ensemble.
I guess we’ll see what happens.
