If you were to run a poll on the internet community, a revival of the cult show Firefly would likely be found just above the end to world hunger on a list of things people would wish for if they were given three wishes.
It now looks as though those wishes are somewhat closer to being granted as a recent comment from a Fox executive has revealed there is a possibility that the crew of the Serenity may be heading back out to the black, although, there is one conduction. Read on to find out what it is.
Rotten Tomatoes recently caught up with Fox Broadcasting President of Entertainment, David Madden at the Television Critics Association where he revealed that we could see Firefly back on our screens as long as the series original creator, Joss Whedon is involved.
Rotten Tomatoes revealed:
“Given the success of Fox’s reboots of The X-Files and 24, and Prison Break returning this year, Madden said he’d be open to a Firefly reboot if Joss Whedon himself wanted to revisit it. Madden suspects Whedon is now too busy with movies, and he would not consider doing Firefly without Whedon.”
Whilst it would definitely be sacrilegious to bring back the series without Whedon, it would also need as much of the original cast back as they could possibly get. Since the show was cancelled back in the 2003, the show has continued in the form of a feature film, Serenity, and several comic book series involving the characters. It also has one of the most dedicated fan-bases, affectionately known as Browncoats, who keep the dream alive.
With Whedon unlikely to be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe any time soon, it may be that he will find time to work on bringing the much loved sci-fi back to our screens. Although, I won’t be holding my breath.
What do you think? Would you like to see Firefly return? Should it be left to rest? Let us know below!
