Seems like everyone from Warner Bros. is offering up their opinions on the difference between Marvel and DC Comics movies.
First, it was Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujuihara: “The worlds of DC are very different. They’re steeped in realism, and they’re a little bit edgier than Marvel’s movies.”
Then it was Warner Bros. President Greg Silverman:
“There is intensity and a seriousness of purpose to some of these characters,” he said. “The filmmakers who are tackling these properties are making great movies about superheroes; they aren’t making superhero movies. And when you are trying to make a good movie, you tackle interesting philosophies and character development. There’s also humor, which is an important part.”
Now, in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, Ben Affleck has chimed in:
“It is more mythic, it is more grand in that way, and it is a little more realistic,” said Affleck. “Just by their nature, these films can’t be as funny or as quick or as glib as Marvel movies.”
This common theme seems to be that DC Comics are more realistic than Marvel. Interesting.
