After years of rumors and false starts, the ball is finally rolling to get the new Friday the 13th in theaters.
The film is currently in preproduction with filming to begin in March. This was first mentioned by a Friday the 13th fan site.
“The reason that the production in Conyers is interesting is that Platinum Dunes is scheduled for shooting in that town starting in March and lasting through to May. That leads us to believe a good majority of filming should take place in that area. (On a side note, we tried to get the official start date, but were unable to get a solid confirmation.)
Another interesting bit of information about Conyers is that it is just under 12 miles away from Covington, Georgia where ‘Jason Lives: Friday The 13th Part VI’ was filmed!”
The information was later confirmed by an Atlanta photographer via Twitter.
The film’s screenplay has been written by Prisoners scribe Aaron Guzikowski. And attached to direct is Breck Eisner, who previously helmed the 2010 remake of The Crazies.
Although the plot has yet to be revealed, it’s been suggested that we will see Jason and his parents, with a slight focus on Jason’s origins. Whether these are the same origins from past films or if they’re changing up the franchise mythology is yet to be known.
There’s also a new casting call asking for a pair of twins to play the younger incarnation of Jason Voorhees. And even more interesting is what the new Friday the 13th is titled on the casting call:
Friday the 13th, Part 13
With shooting to last from March 19th to May 4th, the film should be ready for theaters by Friday the 13th of October 2017.
