The DCEU has a weird reputation. While their films so far have seen mixed reactions from fans, a lot of their future films have been building up anticipation. With the fantastic trailers for Wonder Woman so far as well as the promise of finally seeing the Justice League on the big screen, it’s hard to really blame them. However, one film that people seem to be looking forward to the most is Ben Affleck’s upcoming standalone Batman film.
With his debut made in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice reactions to Affleck’s portrayal of the character has been cited as one of the highlights of the film by people who both like and dislike the film (seems to be one of the few things they can agree on). So when Affleck was announced to not only return as the character for a standalone film, but that he’d also be writing and directing it, there was immediately a lot of hype.
Recently, Affleck gave an update on the film in an interview with the New York Times, stating that he was still in the process of finishing the script. He stated:
“I’m a real believer in not reverse engineering projects to meet a window or a date. So, that’s what we’re doing.”
He also stated that he wants to film to pay homage to Batman’s cinematic history, particularly the works of Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan.
Seeing as how he’s taking as much time he needs to make the best film possible, we can assume that Affleck’s Batman film will show a lot of promise. After all, DC is pushing back Justice League 2’s release date just so the caped crusader can get his time in the spotlight.
Now, Affleck has confirmed in an interview with Variety that the film is on schedule to start shooting in Spring 2017:
“We’re on the right track with that and everything is coming together. We’re still finishing up a script. I’m very excited.”
Get ready, folks! The Batman movie will be here before you know it.
