Teen Titans GO! Is one of those shows that has never taken itself too seriously, from its outlandish animation to its ridiculous plots. It’s also well known that the show also likes to throw out the occasional reference to the wider DC franchise. This tradition has continued in the most recent episode, which has thrown out a couple of recent digs at two of DC’s big screen entries.
A fan of the show recently took to Twitter to share a couple of references he spotted for Man of Steel and Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice in this weekends episode ‘TV Knight’.
As you can see from the pictures below, the reference to Man of Steel came in the form of a giant coin featuring General Zod in a neck brace, a reference to the finale in which Superman snaps the villains neck.
Another reference featured in the episode came when Batman was flipping through his phone contacts, revealing not one but two Martha’s, an homage to the conclusion of Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice which saw the two characters bond over their mothers sharing the same name, something which caused a great stir in the comic book community:

It wasn’t just the movies the show took aim at however, the episode also featured a reference to, with an appearance from the The Comedian’s trademark smiley face badge from Watchmen appearing in the Batcave. This is a clear reference to DC’s decision to incorporate the Watchmen characters into the mainstream universe as part of their recent ‘Rebirth’ storyline.
It’s good to see that DC are able to have a laugh at their own expense, especially given how these events haven’t gone down to well with the fans and critics alike. Let’s just hope that the future films don’t give them anything to reference.
