If the character Scorpion was real, he’d currently be saying ‘Get over here!’ to Simon McQuoid as the Australian director is being courted to direct the upcoming reboot of the popular video game, Mortal Kombat.
The announcement that McQuoid is in line to direct the adaption came via Variety. Whilst not known for big budget films, the website describes McQuoid as ‘one of the most in-demand commercials directors in the business.’
The film itself is set to be produced by James Wan, who is set to helm the upcoming Aquaman adaption for Warner Brothers. The project was initially announced back in 2011 with Kevin Tancharoen, who had created the popular web series Mortal Kombat: Legacy, however he dropped out of the project in 2013.
Not much is currently known about the plot, however it is assumed that the film will revolve around the inter-dimensional fighting tournament that the games are known for. We’ll no doubt see all the favorite characters, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Sonya Blade, Raiden, Johnny Cage and all the others.
The Mortal Kombat reboot has yet to be given a release date, but hopefully the announcement of a director means it isn’t far off.
