Rosario Dawson has been at E3 this past week, talking up her involvement in Call Of Duty III, but MTV News managed to talk to the “Alexander” and “Clerks II” actress about Daredevil and the next steps for her character in the Netflix and Marvel series.
“She’s someone — hero or not — you’d want to have in a dire situation… I really just liked her arc all the way through.”
“You know, this is someone who helps people, and she’s been violent now but seeing the need for it. I think there’s a lot that she’s having to grapple with, and I think that’s what’s exciting about using this show to explore street-level characters: it makes it that much more closer to us.”
Of course, the big news about Daredevil Season 2 is the inclusion of “The Walking Dead” and “Fury” actor Jon Bernthal, playing Frank Castle, better known as The Punisher. Dawson had some interesting insights into the inclusion of the violent character.
“That’s going to raise the stakes so much more, because Matt Murdock almost behaves like the Punisher in the first season.” She continued, ”It’s going to be really interesting to see how they differentiate them and where that goes.”
Her character is a departure from the Claire Temple from the comic books, as the Night Nurse character was incorporated into the mix, and she had some comments on that as well.
“Even just having Night Nurse and Claire Temple come together was already changing the Marvel Universe. So it just feels like, A) I finally get to join Marvel. I get to do it in a way that’s completely altering the universe, which is awesome. And then, B) I have no idea where it’s going to go, because here I was having a fling with Matt Murdock, and now Luke Cage is coming up, and Jessica Jones.”
It’s always great when someone who is a fan of the subject material and adaptation gets cast in a role, and Rosario is an avid comic book fan. Of the first season, she had this to say:
“It’s very realistic-feeling. You know, they have that whole ’Old Boy’ kind of fighting style, but it’s great. It’s really fun to see people miss punches and get tired. They’re people.”
And of the future for the Netflix/Marvel series?
“I’m very curious to see how that develops,” Dawson said, “as we’re maybe starting to bring in some of the more fantastical heroes that we keep alluding to.”
“I have no idea how they’re wanting me to come back or in which way, shape or form but it’s nice to know that I’ve got a character who does kind of string everyone together and bring all those worlds together.”
What do you guys think?
