Posts and discussions are all the buzz about the masked assassin extraordinaire Deathstroke being revealed to be played by Joe Manganiello (True Blood, Spider-man) , but irony has it, did you know Manganiello almost was part of an earlier role in the DC Cinematic Universe?
Back when promoting his latest film at the time Sucker Punch, director Zack Snyder spoke about his casting choice for Henry Cavill as Superman being announced and that his second choice was, in fact, Manganiello himself. MTV has the 2011 interview posted in the source below.
What was it that made Cavill more suitable to be the leading step as the Man of Steel in the first DC Cinematic Universe unveiling?
Snyder explains what he saw in Henry:
“Henry’s just … I love Joe too, by the way. Really he was the only other guy I was thinking of, to be honest, other than Henry. But in the end, I think Henry just has this innocence too [in addition to the look and physicality required for the role], he has both, which is tricky. Superman needs the teeniest bit of that. Not to be overt, but you like it to be there ever so slightly. I mean, he grew up in Kansas, that’s just true, so you need a little of that [innocence].”
Well, fate worked its way around and lo and behold, Manganiello managed to become part of the DC Cinematic Universe, especially with taking the Batfleck one-on-one as the deadly assassin Deathstroke in the upcoming solo Batman film, directed and written by Ben Affleck himself. Still, a curious idea had Cavill not gotten back to Warner Bros. from his World of Warcraft questing and the runner-up had been chosen.
