In the wee hours of the morning, there was a tweet that was heard around the world. “Scott Derrickson got it right.” Wait… What? Who? When? How?
For those of you that don’t know who Scott Derrickson is, he is the new director for the upcoming Doctor Strange Movie, and people are stoked, including me. For those of you who don’t know who gave the movie his blessing, ever heard of… Stan Lee?
Tonight, in the biggest Q&A hall, Stan Lee told a packed room of @FANEXPOCANADA fans he thinks @scottderrickson got Doctor Strange right.

Yes, that is right, the one and only Stan Lee has given his blessing to the new Doctor Strange movie. You might be asking yourself why this is such a big deal. Well, it is doubly important because of the fact that this is Stan Lee’s first movie where he has given complete creative control over to the director and the artists. Think about it, Lee has been a collaborator in every single major Marvel property since 1960. It has been FIFTY SIX years of Lee having a firm voice in the universe… But no more.
Coming hot off this tweet from popular podcaster, writer and editor, Moises Chiullan, Stan Lee has given his official blessing to Scott Derrickson. What truly makes this great, is this is unknown territory for the MCU. Magic? Yes. Demons? Yes. Everything in between? Yes.
I think I speak for everybody when I say, “we are excited for Doctor Strange!!!” The blending of magic and reality looks completely awesome. The reality-defying story that meets the ever changing world that looks more like a completely abstract painting by Picasso, than a 2016 block buster movie, is sure to excite fans everywhere.
Lee is not technically or officially related to Marvel studios, but that has not stopped this aging gem to make appearances from everything from Captain America to Guardians of the Galaxy. But even with the heaven sent blessing from the man himself, Doctor Strange has been presented with some challenges as a whole.
Casting Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One was a dicey move by the company as a whole. There have been whispers and rumors around Hollywood as of late, saying that the movie companies are “white washing movies for American audiences.”
On top of that, there are many critics and fanboys that are preaching that a “magic” movie will not be well received, especially when it comes to a comic book movie. To those people – I just laugh.
