Everyone knows and loves the Justice League. You know, Superman, Batman, Wonder-woman, Green Lantern, Flash, the list goes on. But how many of you know about a little thing called Justice League Dark? Personally, this is one of my more favorite tie-ins riding on the back of the Injustice series. Sure, it was around before, but it took a center stage in Injustice: Year 3. This is strictly talking in comic book and video game Mumbo jumbo. Now, when it comes to the big screen, we will be seeing Justice League Dark in a whole new light, given life by some awesome directors and producers!
DC and Warner Brothers announced that Doug Liman, who was the up and down talent behind movies such as The Bourne Identity, and the sleeper hit Edge of Tomorrow, will be the continuing talent behind the upcoming Justice League Dark movie. But that’s not what is getting us excited. What is really getting us excited is that fact that Guillermo del Toro is producing. We all heard through the pipeline that he was originally suppose to be directing (I know, boners everywhere), but thanks to scheduling difficulties, he had to drop the project. After sitting without any movement forward, Scott Rudin was brought in as well. With this happening, the project got new steam and a new director, but del Toro decided to stay on to produce.
For those of you that are not familiar with Justice League Dark, it is based on the magical part of the DC universe and heals with spirits, ghosts, demons and Demi-gods. This also includes characters such as Deadman, Zatanna, Swamp Thing and most recognizable, John Constantine. Constantine has made it both to the big screen and the small screen being played by Keanu Reeves and Matt Ryan respectively. The movie was met with mixed reviews and the show was actually well received.
The interesting part is that Liman was actually scheduled to direct the up and coming Gambit solo movie attracted to the Marvel universe. When Gambit was officially delayed, Liman had done so to reportedly put it on the back burner for another project. Could that project be Justice League Dark? And if that is so, with the backing of names like del Toro, could he be making a full switch to the DC Universe and leaving Marvel behind? Only time will tell.
