ScreenGeek.net’s favorite wild man Nicolas Cage is back in the first trailer for Paul Schrader’s Dog Eat Dog and I am pleased to say that it looks pretty good!
With the exception of films like Joe and The Trust, Cage has had a difficult time picking projects lately as most of work this decade has been pretty lousy.
From what I can tell, Dog Eat Dog might be the film to end that losing streak. It has a lot of things going for it. Cage is always a big plus even in awful movies, fellow over-actor Willem Dafoe is also a welcome presence (if you haven’t seen them together in David Lynch’s Wild at Heart, I highly suggest you do so), and love him or hate him Paul Schrader is an actual professional director and not one of the no name hacks who have been directing Cage recently.
The premise gives me hope too. Cage always makes for an awesome con (Con Air, Wild at Heart, Raising Arizona, Face/Off) and the baby kidnapping plot worked great for Raising Arizona (one of my favorite movies ever).
The obvious low budget gives me pause, but I’m still really excited for it. You can watch the trailer below:
