Many fans were surprised to hear that the newest Guardians of the Galaxy film would be having Kurt Russell portray Ego the Living Planet.
However, it seems that he’ll be playing the character in a way that makes much more sense than if he were a giant disembodied head throughout the film. It seems Ego will be taking on a human form to experience what it’s like to be a human.
Artist BossLogic managed to paint Russell as the planet-version of Ego, however, which you can check out below.
Some fun with @ComicBook creating Kurt as Ego, I know he is going to be in human form, we stuck to the source pic.twitter.com/e2WquqbzQ9

Director James Gunn had this to say for the character in comparison with Rocket:
“This melancholy and beautiful undercurrent helped to ground the character (Rocket) for me. He had far more in common with Frankenstein’s monster than he did Bugs Bunny. And I related to him, greatly, and I hoped other folks who felt like outsiders would as well. Ego seemed, in many ways, like an even more ridiculous character.”
But, thankfully it seems, Gunn has things under control.
“We have both pushed ourselves as far as we can go in making him real, and grounded, and emotionally centered.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5, 2017.
