We’ve known for a bit now that Kurt Russell was going to play the father of Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, in the second installment of Guardians of the Galaxy.
When Peter’s mother, on her deathbed, told her young son that his father was “an angel……..composed of pure light,” we were all left scratching our heads, trying to figure out who she could be referring to. And what sort of “angel” would have anything to do with Yondu and his band of Ravagers?
We now know that his character is none other than Ego the Living Planet, one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel universe. Of course, an actual planet could not, ahem, procreate with an earthling, so Russell will be playing a human form of Ego, who traveled to earth to experience life as a human, and met Peter’s mother on that journey.
We also got a look at his costume, revealed today to be a simple but somewhat elegant getup, with detailed bracers and pauldrons, as well as a long cape. So this is what Ego will most likely be wearing when he meets his intergalactic antihero son for the first time.
