With Karl Urban finishing up his press tour soon, culminating with the official Star Trek Beyond world premiere event at San Diego Comic-Con on July 20, he’ll finally be able to start production on Thor: Ragnarok . During a separate Star Trek Beyond premiere event recently Karl Urban spoke briefly with ComicBook.com about his role as Skurge the Executioner. And while Marvel has famously kept their actors tight lipped about details on upcoming films, Urban did provide some insight in what drew him to the role.
“Well, it’s difficult for me to really comment about it because I haven’t started production yet, but I’m looking forward to getting on set,”… “For me, I read the script and it was a fun script and quite different than the previous Thor movies, and I was drawn to the appeal of working with Taika Waititi, the director. So, the coolest thing about Skurge? I think is probably his journey through the film. There’s change and there’s, he finishes the film in a different place than he starts and, as an actor, that’s always something you look for.”
So Urban hints at some evolution for the ever imposing and protective Skurge. Could it be that Skurge and Amora the Enchantress (you can’t have Skurge without his liege the Enchantress.), cast off their antagonistic ways to help Thor and company defend Asgard from outside forces? Perhaps Marvel Studios will give us an official synopsis and character profiles at next week’s San Diego Comic-Con.
