The Saw movie franchise was presumably moving ahead after the success of Saw X. After all, there was once a time when Saw movies were pushed out every year from 2004 to 2010. Sadly, the production of Saw 11 has reportedly been canceled.
The eleventh entry in the Saw series was announced in December 2023. It was expected to be released in September 2024. However, production difficulties plagued the film even at that time, and it was postponed for a September 2025 release date.
Now, as shared via Bloody-Disgusting, and it looks like issues regarding the project never subsided. According to one of their sources, Saw XI has been canceled as a result. Here’s what was shared:
“It’s totally dead,” their source began. “It’s 100% over. Almost a year now.”
“Everything went sideways in January 2024 … the producers started fighting,” the source explained regarding the initial issues. While one producer still tried to “plow forward” with Saw 11, the other producer “put up roadblocks.”
One might assume that Lionsgate could have helped solve these issues. However, because the actual rights to the property lie within Twisted Pictures, there was nothing that could be done. “[Lionsgate] didn’t have anyone to smooth over the disagreement,” the source added.
At this point, the biggest solution appears to be selling the franchise, though the brand would “start over” according to the source if that happened. This would be a shame following Saw X and the efforts made to return to the franchise’s roots. In fact, it was highly suspected that Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith, and Costas Mandylor would have all returned for Saw XI.
Director Kevin Greutert, who most recently directed Saw X amidst his other work in the franchise, would have returned as director. Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan were attached to write Saw XI following their work on Saw IV, Saw V, Saw VI, and Saw 3D.
It’s a disappointing time for Saw fans. Hopefully more information will come to light in the near future. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Saw updates as we have them.
