Marvel Studios has been hard at work with shaping the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s no secret that the upcoming Avengers films Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will likely forever change the way we view the franchise. Now a new rumor suggests that Spider-Man 4 will fit somewhere in between as a direct sequel to Avengers: Doomsday.
Marvel Studios and Sony have been developing Spider-Man 4 for quite some time. After the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, it clearly left a number of directions for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker to follow. With the MCU’s ongoing Multiverse storylines, however, it makes sense that the next entry would once again revolve around the existence of these variant worlds.
Additionally, because the film is being released between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, it further makes sense that Spider-Man 4 might tackle whatever plot threads Doomsday leaves hanging. We already know that Robert Downey Jr. will return for Doomsday, albeit as Doctor Doom, so it makes sense that it could be an emotional time for Peter Parker whose mentor was Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark.
This rumor comes from insider Daniel Richtman, though details beyond that are scarce. Additionally, there hasn’t been any official confirmation that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will appear in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. When one considers the importance of Spider-Man, however, and the character’s appearances in previous Avengers films Infinity War and Endgame, it would make sense.
Ultimately only time will tell how Marvel Studios plans to use Spider-Man in their future plans and whether or not they will tie directly into the Avengers films. If the studio plans to adapt Avengers: Secret Wars in any way close to the comics, however, then we could be seeing dozens of beloved characters playing a role in these new storylines. Spider-Man 4 could certainly work out by carrying some of the narrative, then, and telling Parker’s story across multiple films.
Spider-Man 4 is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2026. Avengers: Doomsday will be released just one month prior on May 1, 2026. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the highly-anticipated MCU follow-up as we have them.
