A majority of Stephen King‘s early written works have been adapted for either film or television over the years. However, one of the author’s short stories is being adapted for the first time. The Monkey, a short story featured in Skeleton Crew, is being adapted by Longlegs director Osgood Perkins – and the newest trailer can be viewed below.
The Monkey already received a teaser several months ago, but this full-length red band trailer is much more gruesomely detailed. Fans will get glimpses at some of the various murders expected to be depicted in the film, and if the tone is any indication, Perkins is channeling some major Creepshow vibes for this new effort.
The story revolves around a toy monkey that triggers various grisly deaths around the two brothers that discovered it. Of course, their attempts to simply get rid of the toy and move on with their lives isn’t so easy. For what was a relatively small-sized short story, Osgood Perkins seems to have transformed its dark and chaotic energy into a feature-length narrative that should certainly be a bloody good time on the big screen.

Additionally, the film will be released just months after his hit Longlegs took the world by storm in 2024. Longlegs was a very different type of movie which starred Nicolas Cage as the titular serial killer “Longlegs.” It grossed $127 million worldwide on a budget less than $10 million. As such, it’ll be exciting to see how The Monkey performs next.
Osgood Perkins wrote and directed The Monkey based on the Stephen King short story of the same name. James Wan produced the feature. THe cast includes Theo James, Tatiana Maslany, Elijah Wood, Christian Convery, Colin O’Brien, Rohan Campbell, and Sarah Levy.
The Monkey will be hitting theaters on February 21, 2025. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on the highly-anticipated Stephen King adaptation as we have them.
