The Marvel Cinematic Universe is preparing to give fans an all-new take on the X-Men. It’s expected that many fan-favorite characters will be appearing, albeit with new cast members portraying them, and Wicked star Cynthia Erivo is eager to get in on the action as Storm.
The MCU has been slowly incorporating X-Men characters into their canon. For the most part, however, the characters have been introduced with the actors that portrayed them in Fox’s live-action adaptations. This has only made fans even more curious to see who would be playing the equivalents of these characters in the MCU.
With many fans eager to see Cynthia Erivo as Storm due her newfound popularity in Wicked, Erivo herself is now supporting the idea. Here’s what she shared while speaking with the National Board of Review regarding which character she’d next like to play the most:
“I really want to play Storm,” Erivo said. “I know it sounds frivolous but I don’t think we’ve uncovered how grand she is and all of the inner turmoil that she has. So I think there’s a world in which we could do something like that.”
Halle Berry played in the majority of Storm’s appearances for Fox’s X-Men films in the past. She has also been open to return to the role, though it remains to be seen if she’ll have that opportunity. Alexandra Shipp played a younger version of Berry’s Storm in the 2016 film X-Men: Apocalypse. If chosen for the MCU, Cynthia Erivo would be following in their footsteps as the newest iteration of the character.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the development of the MCU X-Men movie as we have them. Though there hasn’t been any casting information revealed at this point in time, Cynthia Erivo would certainly make a good choice for Storm, especially given the recent success of Wicked.
