Netflix has officially announced their decision to cancel a fan-favorite series on their platform. Sadly, the series was originally saved by Netflix for its third season, so it’s definitely disappointing for fans to see it canceled for good.
Now fans will have to accept the show’s conclusion after a mere three seasons, with two having been produced by Peacock and the third by Netflix. A reason for the cancellation hasn’t been given, and as of this writing, the creators or the show’s cast have yet to have made any comments regarding the decision.
With the show originally premiering on Peacock in 2021, so it’s been quite the journey to see it ultimately canceled now in 2024. This news was shared in a new report, where it was confirmed that the third season would be the only new season produced by Netflix for the fan-favorite series.
“The musical comedy series, starring Sara Bareilles, Paula Pell, Busy Philipps and RenĂ©e Elise Goldsberry, has been canceled after debuting its third season on Netflix,” the outlet shared. “The streamer previously saved it from cancellation after Peacock axed the show after two seasons.”
The series is none other than Girls5Eva and it was created by Meredith Scardino, as confirmed by The Wrap. The show was executive produced by Tina Fey, Robert Carlock, and Jeff Richmond. While Girls5Eva fans no doubt hoped that it would continue following Netflix’s decision to produce a third season, it looks like that will no longer be the case. In the meantime, all three seasons are still available to stream on Netflix.
It can definitely be a conundrum in the streaming era for these shows to find proper homes. While one platform might cancel another series, there are cases where it can be picked up by another. Netflix has been on both ends of these unique scenarios in the past, and for Girls5Eva, the fan-favorite Netflix series has finally come to an end.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Netflix and the availability of Girls5Eva as we have them. While it won’t be picked up for any additional seasons, at least fans still had the opportunity to receive a third season via Netflix.
