On occasion, Netflix has been known to have saved a series or two from being completely canceled. Unfortunately, Netflix will be removing one such series from its platform in the near future. This will definitely shock fans who have become accustomed to having the series readily available to stream on their platform.
As revealed by Netflix themselves, the series will soon no longer be available to stream on the platform. It’s a move that may stun many given that they produced so many of its seasons, but because they didn’t originally create the series, the rights aren’t completely exclusive to them.
The series, which originally aired on A&E, made its debut on the network in 2012. It continued to run on A&E until they canceled it with only three seasons. Soon after, Netflix picked up the show, renewing it for fourth, fifth, and sixth seasons from 2015 to 2017.
The series, titled Longmire, is currently advertised on Netflix with “December 31, 2024” being its last day to stream on the platform before they plan on removing the show. While there are other ways to view the series, including both DVD and Blu-ray releases, there’s something odd about seeing the show taken off Netflix.
After all, it was one of the first shows produced by Netflix. And while it wasn’t always produced by the platform, it certainly feels like a piece of history will be leaving. It goes to show that nothing is permanent when it comes to streaming services.
For those unfamiliar with the series, it stars Robert Taylor, Katee Sackhoff, Lou Diamond Phillips, Adam Bartley, Cassidy Freeman, and Bailey Chase. The plot revolves around a Wyoming sheriff, Walt Longmire, who investigates crime in a fictional location known as Absaroka County.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Netflix and their various films and shows as we have them. In the meantime, it looks like fans eager to watch Longmire will have to go to Paramount Plus to do so after Netflix removes the series on January 1, 2025.
