The 2019 movie Joker was notable for not making any suggestions that a sequel would ever be made. Of course, the critical reception and box office success suggested that we would see Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker make a comeback. Now, several years later, he’ll be doing just that in Joker: Folie à Deux. But does the new Joker sequel tease yet another follow-up with a potential post-credits scene?
Mid-credits and post-credits scenes have become increasingly popular alongside the success of the average superhero movie. For example, Marvel Studios has been using post-credits scenes to set up the plots for additional films and television shows since 2008’s Iron Man. DC eventually followed suit, especially when they had the former DCEU to construct.
As such, fans are curious to know if Joker 2 might also use a post-credits scene to set up an additional story set in its own unique continuity. While the first Joker didn’t have any such scenes, it wouldn’t be surprising if Folie à Deux operated differently since it is a sequel in itself.
Nonetheless, it appears to have that in common with its predecessor: Joker: Folie à Deux does not, in fact, offer any post-credits scenes to viewers. This may be disappointing for fans that hope to see a Joker franchise grow alongside the upcoming DCU films and shows. Others will be happy to know that director Todd Phillips was able to tell his own story for the character with only two films.
At a time when numerous other superhero projects include post-credits scenes, however, and even urge fans to look out for the next installment – it’s always refreshing to see a project that tries to stand on its own. Hopefully this gives viewers time to think about Joker 2 and what the story of this new outing has to offer.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the Joker film franchise and any other upcoming projects from DC. Though Joker: Folie à Deux doesn’t have any indication that another direct follow-up is on the way, we’ve certainly seen what can happen in just a few years. Perhaps this is far from the end for both Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker and Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn. Otherwise, these two Joker films together do tell a fully complete stand-alone story.
