Plans seem to always be underway somewhere to get the RoboCop franchise back on track. This has been the case ever since the most recent film installment, the 2014 remake, was released. Now, a decade later, a new live-action project seems closer than ever to happening with the announcement of a new RoboCop television series.
The series was previously reported to be in development as recently as last year. Now, however, we know much more about the project – and that none other than James Wan will be involved as an executive producer. He will produce through his label Atomic Monster.
As further noted by Deadline, however, we also know who will be the writer, executive producer, and showrunner for the project. Here’s what the outlet had to share on that front:
“Veteran Peter Ocko (Lodge 49) has been tapped as writer, executive producer and showrunner on the potential series.”
The outlet was also able to deliver a brief logline which confirms that it will follow a similar narrative to the original films:
“The series will follow the premise of the films, focusing on a giant tech conglomerate which collaborates with the local police department to introduce a technologically advanced enforcer to combat rising crime — a police officer who’s part man, part machine.”
Other details at this time are scarce, so hopefully more news will be shared in the near future. In the meantime, James Wan and Peter Ocko should definitely make a great team when it comes to reviving this classic sci-fi IP. Especially at a time when fans are clamoring for the character’s return.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding this new RoboCop series and any other franchise updates as we have them. Hopefully this new effort from Amazon MGM Studios will pan out, especially with such talented individuals behind the show. It’s about time that RoboCop made a grand comeback.
